(Perimeter & Area Composite Figure Question)

PSLE Math 2017 Paper 2 Question 18

(a) Ans: 72cm

8u × 4u = Area
8 × 1u × 4 × 1u = 288 cm^2
1u × 1u = 288 cm^2 ÷ 32
1u × 1u = 9 cm^2
1u = 3 cm (radius)
Perimeter of the rectangle → (8u + 4u) × 2
= 12u × 2
= (12 × 3 cm) × 2
= 72cm

OR

Guess & Check Method

Ratio → Length : Breadth
8 : 4
2 : 1
288 = 144 × 2 (X)
288 = 24 × 12 (✔)
Perimeter → (24 + 12) × 2
= 72cm

(b) Ans: 480 cm^2

Area of 7 circles → 7 × 22/7 × 3cm × 3cm = 198 cm^2
Area of figure → 198 cm^2 + 288 cm^2 = 486 cm^2
