(Area and Perimeter of Shaded and Unshaded Parts Question)

PSLE Math 2020 Paper 2 Question 12

PSLE Math problem involving Venn diagram and geometry; key concept in upper primary set theory and area calculations.

(a) Ans: 47.1 cm
Unshaded perimeter -> 2 x 1/4 x 3.14 x 30
= 47.1

(b) Ans: 1156.5 cm^2
Unshaded area -> 2 x (quadrant - triangle)
(quadrant - triangle) -> (1/4 x 3.14 x 15 x 15) - (1/2 x 15 x 15)
= 64.125 cm^2
Unshaded area -> 64.125 x 2 = 128.25
Total shaded -> 2 x (3.14 x 15 x 15 - 128.25)
= 1156.5 cm^2
