PSLE Math 2023 Paper 2 Question 10

Handwritten notes on lined paper explaining the calculation of the smallest possible difference between two masses, A and B, with mathematical equations and annotations in blue and red ink.

Total mass of A, B and C = 240g x 3
Based on the diagram, A + B = C
A + B → 720g ÷ 2 = 360g

To get smallest possible difference between A and B → B has to be as large as possible while A has to be as small as possible.

Largest possible value of B = 99g (2 digit number)

Total of A and C = 360g - 99g = 261g

Smallest possible difference between A and B = 261g - 99g
= 162g
