5 paper hearts = 8 paper stars
Teacher pinned 22 hearts and 2 stars in the classroom

Multiples of 5 hearts: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30
+22 27, 32, 37, 42, 47, 53

Multiples of 8 stars: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48
+2 10, 18, 26, 34, 42, 50

Hence, 4 students chose hearts and 5 students chose stars
Therefore, smallest possible no. of students = 5 + 4 = 9
